Ben Moynihan is Not The First (Or The Last)

No woman is safe from the harms of male violence and it is incredibly disappointing that society still wants to paints these acts of violence as merely “individual” instead of acts that are part of the system; a system in which encourages men to terrorize women when they do not get what they want from women. A rapist can say that he hates all women but the act of rape itself against women is still not seen as a hate crime. It is disturbing that men like Ben Moyhihan will only be seen as a “crazy individual” and not one of the many men who are so deeply indoctrinated by patriarchy (our current system) that the denial seems to be of extreme magnitude in comparison. Here is BBC News’s report on the attack:

“Ben Moynihan, 18, admits wounding the women – who were stabbed in random attacks – but denies attempted murder.

Winchester Crown Court was told that he wrote: “I am still a virgin, everyone is losing it before me, that’s why you are my chosen target.”

The attacks happened in Portsmouth in June and July 2014.

Three women, aged 20, 45 and 66, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in separate attacks by a stranger in Cosham and Hilsea.

‘Smell the flesh’

Kerry Maylin, prosecuting, said that Mr Moynihan – of Knightstone Court, Portsmouth – left two letters for police.

One, placed on a police van, said: “All women need to die and hopefully next time I can gouge their eyes out.

“Every time I stab someone I like to go home and smell the flesh I have ripped out. Come and arrest me for God’s sake before I hunt for my fourth victim.”

He also wrote: “I was planning to murder, mainly women, as an act of revenge because the life they gave me.”

Mr Moynihan had included a photograph of himself, which led to his arrest as officers recognised him on the street.

In another letter he wrote: “When women won’t talk to you it’s heartbreaking, why are they fussy with men nowadays?

“As I roam these streets, hungry for blood and pain, I am greeted with attack, attack, attack, attack.”

Ms Maylin said videos were found on Mr Moynihan’s laptop in which he said: “I am still a virgin at 17 and why do women have to be fussy with choosing a boyfriend or cheating on men with others?

“I attack women because I grew up to believe them a more weaker part of the human breed.”

Mr Moynihan also faces alternative charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily, which he also denies.

He admits wounding the three women.

The trial continues.”

So the man can admit to hating women and severely harm them but will he still be seen as a “lone wolf”? The mind boggles as to why these men easily adopt this type of behavior without anyone noticing.

  1. Why was not this male charged with ‘hate crimes’ against women and girls? Answer because ‘hate crimes’ are only those which directly negatively impact males. Mens’ male supremacist system has always misogynistically claimed ‘man is the human standard and it is man’s lived experiences/interpretations which are the definitive human standard!’ Hence men cannot engage in collective and systemic male hatred of women and girls because systemic male hatred of women and girls doesn’t exist according to men and we know men always tell the truth! But racism and homophobic hate crimes exist because these affect males and therefore it is real and important – to men.

Guess what women-hating male Moynihan would have been charged with inciting racism if he had attempted to murder non-white men and police would have claimed ‘look we’ve foiled another terrorist plot!’ But mens’ violent centuries old continuing war on women and girls is as usual denied by men -because as I said above – men are the default humans and mens’ myopic views are the supposed human standard!

Because men are the dominating and controlling group this means they are the ones defining what does and does not constitute a systemic male war on women because their sex is female. So this is why men continue to blatantly lie every time yet another women-hating male demonstrates his male right to enact male hatred and male contempt against women and girls. Pandemic male violence against women and girls does not happen because this is how males maintain their male oppression/male domination over women – no it is just thousands of males committing male violence against women and girls and each incident is just another ‘rare and unusual event!’ If you believe that – you are colluding with men and their male hated of women and girls.

  2. It’s not that no one cares to notice, it’s just that those that do see it and respond (aka women) are simply not considered fully human, so our observations, opinions, etc, are just disregarded. Many women don’t fully realize that this type of male violence is an overarching, class issue and a society/ worldwide thing, but IMO it’s merely mental self defense. Knowing men hate women and identifying their actions as acts of war, part of a larger system of hatred and oppression, is terrifying. Most of us have men we love, or at least ones we live/ deal with everyday, so it’s a frightening revalation that these are not “lone wolves” (a typical male description, which insults wolves, as well as shows disregard and ignorance for nature, and how wolves live, but I digress…)

Men DO know. Some may be in denial about their complicity, but (for women) to think men aren’t fully aware of their violence and it’s target, is another way to protect oneself mentally.

Men that feel so entitled to the ownership and sexual exploitation of woman that they will physically harm and kill them if they feel they arent getting properly serviced, are ordinary men, not unusual monsters. They all share a similar mindset, men that stab and kill, simply go one step further than the others, who may keep their violence to actions that are unlikely to end in criminal sanctions, are legal, or “socially acceptable” (society = men, the default humans). This would include the use of coercion, rape, prostituted people, or porn.

When we realize that’s the case, what’s separating “our” men from those actions? We will never have the illusion of safety again, once we have the realization that men know, and see it as normal. This is all so horrible and I do not blame women for not choosing to see it.

The abuse/killing of women is not a hate crime simply because hate crimes can only happen to humans, and humans = men. If a problem doesn’t include males, it’s considered irrelevant. This is why men even bother to (give lip service in) support of anti racism, anti homophobia, and anti classism actions- men are in these groups as targets. That men are perpetrators is irrelevant, of course. If women are included in those categories (racism, classism, homosexuality), well, that’s by accident. Never will crimes that target women alone/primarily be considered nearly as important, nor be considered as an assault on a group.
