  1. I don't know about you, but if I had my way, I would have those pimps/johns/rapists castrated. 😛

It'd be nice if even more countries adopted the Swedish Model.

And sex pozzie fundamentalists need to STFU and GTFO and stop spreading lies that prostituted people are happy at what they're doing. Also, they need to stop de-linking pornstitution from trafficking because they do go hand-in-hand.

  2. Thanks for sharing the clip, Bedelia Bloodyknuckle. 🙂

I don't think that the Nordic, and in particular the Swedish system is automatically better. As a Nordic individual myself, I see something quite advanced about the way in which particularly the women's rights and sexual hygiene issues are discussed as industry concerns in the States. Partial openness, at least – even if there seems to be a lot of sexual puritanism. Here the prejudice against all sexual professions (and the tiny porn industry) leads into a practical state of non-conversation, and the needs, regulation and healthcare of, say, those in sexual prostitution are silenced.

It's important that pimping has been outlawed and the law is enforced fairly reasonably. Total bans on prostitution (in particular when combined with harsh immigration laws), however, are insensitive toward those who live in the most oppressive circumstances. When there are no means of legal prostitution and support services for, say, illegal immigrants, organised crime unfortunately takes over. With organised crime the sex industry is a business, the other divisions of which include drugs, loans and violence. A really bad combination. Sweden may geopolitically be a country that can implement the harsh measures easier than some others, since it's surrounded by other Nordic countries and it's relatively safe from the worst elements of criminal organisations like Russian or Baltic mafias, or Romanian criminal leagues. Denmark and Finland are buffer countries. These others will have to take a more careful and tolerant attitude toward the welfare of the involved women.

I feel slightly uneasy having to assume this kind of attitude but I've heard even feminist activists play down the importance of whether some margin of women will be violently beaten or become drug addicts, as long as the middle-class is protected from the “moral horror” prostitution. I can't stand the type.
